Thelma Lou the Thanksgiving Turkey

How to celebrate Thanksgiving turkeys: Thelma Lou-style

What you will need:
  • Construction Paper
  • Cardboard (thin cardboard works best)
  • Scissors
  • Gluestick
  • Markers

 How to make it:
    1. First, cut a turkey shape out of the cardboard, but don't include the feathers.

    2. Cut a strip that is the same length as the base of the turkey, and  the height should be about an inch and a half. This will be the crossbeam that the turkey sits on to help it stand up.

    3. Draw a fun pattern on your turkey body and on the crossbeam strip. I used herring-bone on mine.

    4. Next, cut out a triangle for the beak and triangles for the feet, then glue them on.

    5. Draw on the eyes. You can also add a tuft of feathers on the chest.

    6. Now cut out six feathers (you can actually add more if you want) of different colors using the construction paper. Red, orange, and yellow are the traditional turkey feather colors. Glue them on the back of the turkey body.

    7. Cut a strip about an inch and a half tall up the turkey from the base, then insert the crossbeam.

    8. Add to a table for cute Thanksgiving decor!

Ooh La La! DIY Magazine Holder

Tired of your magazines getting ripped and wrinkled? Perhaps a cute magazine holder can keep them safe and organized!

    You Will Need:
    • A large cereal box
    • Scissors
    • Tape
    • A clear plastic sleeve
    • Scrapbook Paper
    • Plain white paper
    Let's Get Started:
     1. Cut off the top of the box so that you can see the title of the magazine. You can slope it or straight-edge it
     2. Cut a rectangle down one of the sides to make it look more like a file box.
     3. Next, glue a sheet of plain paper onto the box to cover up the original face. Make sure all sides are covered.
     4. Glue the sides of the paper down on the inside for a cleaner-looking cut.
     5. Take the plastic sleeve and cut along the side to open it up. Once opened, wrap it around the front, back, and sides of the box and secure with tape. Also make sure the bottom of the sleeve is taped to the bottom of the box. Cut off the excess plastic at the top of the box, but do NOT tape the top down.
     6. Also cut plastic to fit the rectangle, but once again, do NOT tape down the top.

     7. Next, choose scrapbook paper to use on the box. I found this to be the hardest step. :)
     8. Cut the paper to fit the shape of the box (one for each side), then slide it between the plastic and the box. This ensures that the paper will remain clean and tidy, and it allows you to be able to change out the paper, too.

    9. Insert magazines and enjoy!

    Cool Crafts 4 Your Room!

    Wrapping Paper Light Switch

Measure the length and width of your light switch cover and the actual switch, then trace the dimensions on the back of some wrapping paper. Cut them out, then take some double- sided tape and attach it to your light switch cover. Absolutely Fabulous!

    Wrapping Paper Picture Board
Take a 10'' by 10'' piece of wrapping paper, fold over an 8'' by 8'' piece of cardboard, patterned side up, and tape sides down. Use stickers to attach pictures to the board, or make your own out of paper and put double-sided tape on them.

    Good times, bad luck

IHC was awesome!!! My favorite part was the orchestra. When I got home, I was pretty much ignored by Roland (as I figured), but Sassy was begging for attention. I didn't give her any then, because I was going to put my bags in my bedroom. When I got back there, I noticed something was wrong. Where my mirror once stood was empty. I could see vacuum tracks on my carpet. Things were just slightly out of place. I go back to the living room and asked what happened to my room, though I didn't really need to. I guessed that someone had broken my brand new mirror and replaced it with another. Turns out that Sassy had been scratching on a box that held up the mirror (though I tell her not to all the time) and my mirror fell, breaking. It apparently startled both my mother and Roland, who immediately started barking.  So I ended up with another new mirror and a total of fourteen years of bad luck. Thanks Sassy.

Lizard eyes, rad rugs, junk drawers, big plans

I just learned from sis#2  that lizards have hair on their eyeballs. The truth of this fact to me, is still unknown, because, really, who wants to find out that their lizard is looking at them through HAIR?!? Ick. Just thinking about my hairy-eyed baby makes me want to puke.

I never realized how much a rug can add to a room. Every time I get a rug, I just have this happy, completed feeling.  Like my room just got a big dose of fab-ness. I should get rugs more often.

Something I didn't notice as much until recently is what a recycleholic I've become. Seriously, I have a dresser drawer full of cardboard, old boxes, and even parts of an old binder. Besides that, I have a closet full of recyclables, and a locker filled to the brim with poptart boxes. And I plan to use it all. Someday.

Anyway, I have great plans for Easter. We're gonna get some Easter recipes, crafts, and ideas, as well as deeper meanings of Easter on this here blog. It's gonna be fabsolutely AWESOME!!! So be sure to tune in during the week up till Easter. Until then, I gotta get hoppin'.

    Bday continued

Got the rest of mis regalos 2nite. They were as follows: 4 packets of Burpee seeds (2 seashell mix, 1 psyche white, and 1... habanero hot pepper! Yummo! Can't wait to harvest that one!), a big pink zebra print rug, and zebra print sheets.

Along with the treats came a trick. I was getting ready to blog when all of a sudden, a virus alert popped up on my screen, and I start freaking out. I'm not even kidding, I know what viruses can do to a computer, and I know what Trojan horses can do (besides destroying my beloved Hektor's home city of Troy). This virus alert happened to be a trojan horse. Window after window popped up, saying "slasher rules" and such terrifying messages that viruses offer. Fortunately, my father happens to know a lot about computers, and he got back, and starts telling me to click "ok" over and over, and "don't let it get ahead of you!" I was clicking as fast as my poor, teeny tiny fingers  can go. Then, all of a sudden, a whole bunch of windows pop up that say "April Fools!" Now I am at the teary point, freaking out that the computer was going to crash and take me with it. And in the midst of it, my father starts laughing. I go crazy and ask, "Is this some kind of joke?!" He replies by intensifying his laughter. Suddenly, the emotion of the moment was overwhelming, and when that happens, nearly every female opens the flood gates. I was so relieved, because the computer was going to be all right, but at the same time, I got very, very angry. WHAT KIND OF A JOKE WAS THIS, ANYWAY?!?! He scared the hard drives out of me!!! He tries to give me a hug, but the only thing going thru my mind is, "It's a joke, It's a joke, It's a joke. I CAN"T BELIEVE I JUST GOT APRIL FOOLED, AND WITH A FAKE VIRUS TO BOOT!! He said it was payback for getting him (I had taped the sprayer on the kitchen sink so that when you turn on the water, BAM!, you get sprayed with water until you recover enough to turn off the faucet). Anyway, he was the first to use the sink after I taped it, and yeah, he got the water treatment. And the best part? He thought my sister did it. She wakes up to "It must be unofficial April Fool's Day today", goes out there and says, "What's going on?" "Don't play coy with me!" he replies. He thought it was pretty funny. And the whole time, I'm with mi otra hermana, laughing and laughing and laughing. It was great. Finally, he found out that it was my genius who rigged the faucet, but I had no idea that he was planning revenge.  I had also stuck a plastic fly in his tea, so I guess all of that amounted to a trick as big as the one he pulled on me. But don't tell him I said that.  Anyway, thanks to all you who sent me sum'n sum'n, and thanks for tuning in to "Life As A Genius". We'll see you next time, but until then, remember: Brains Triumph Again!!!

    Yay!

Yay! Today est mon birthday, and I am having a fabittude moment! So far, I have gotten Love Finds a Home, a Titanic documentary (I am currently in a Titanic phase, seeing as how April 15, 2012 is the 100th anniversary of the tragedy), and a (nother) full length mirror (see, my other one broke into half a million pieces and I am waiting for the effects of 7 years of bad luck to kick in. I'm too younngg!!) There are a few other things also, but I won't get into them. I also have more coming 2nite.

My house gecko, Tan, is also having his b-day 2-day. He is nine years old, which is tres long for a house gecko.  My brother-in-law celebrates his birthday on April 2 as well.
